Nanotechnology
Designs for the Future

Image of the Desktop Factory on a countertop. Lizard Fire Studios worked with Dr. Eric Drexler of Nanorex to illustrate the operation of a desktop-scale nanofactory, and Version 1.0 is now available. The production of this animation from version 0.8 to 1.0 was made possible by a challange grant from Mark Sims of NanoRex Inc. and the people who contributed to that challange.

Why develop a nanofactory? Do you see value in a medical cure for cancer and AIDS, or do you know someone with a spinal injury and reduced quality of life? A machine like this could produce medical instruments and therapeutic devices able to make these problems a thing of the past.

NanoFuture2030

For a trip through time you should check out this speculative site on the future of Nanotechnology. I attempt to use creative thinking for both real world technical predictions and more speculative entertainment like interviews with people living before and during the Singularity. The name of this site comes from the idea that all hell will break loose around 2030 AD. Time to graduate from Earth 101. Will we make it? Or blow the exam?

You will find topics on all aspects of the nano future. Including

  • Artificial Intelligence - A theory of consciousness.
  • Nanocells - a simpler pathway to health and long life.
  • Interviews from the future - expeditions in a time machine.
